The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) stage begins around graduation, but students should prepare before their final results are released. Names, dates of birth, matriculation details and academic records should be correct because inconsistencies can delay mobilisation or require formal correction.

NYSC mobilisation cycle

NYSC publishes mobilisation timetables for each service-year batch. Exact dates change, and batches may be divided into streams, so graduates should always check the current official timetable.

Stage / seasonWhat normally happensWhy it is importantGraduate action
Final year / graduation periodInstitution verifies graduating records and prepares approved results.Correct academic records are the foundation of mobilisation.Confirm your name, matriculation number and personal details with the institution.
Senate / Academic Board list stageEligible locally trained graduates are included in approved result lists submitted by their institutions.NYSC states that locally trained graduates must appear on the approved list to access registration.Verify your status through official institution/NYSC channels.
Online registration windowProspective corps members create/access their NYSC account, provide required information and complete biometric registration.Successful registration is needed for mobilisation processing.Use your own accessible email/phone and never allow proxy biometric registration.
Call-up / deploymentCall-up information and deployment details are issued according to the timetable. This tells the prospective corps member where and when to report.Read the call-up instructions carefully and prepare required documents.
Orientation courseRegistration, verification, orientation and introductory service activities take place at camp.It formally starts the service experience for deployed corps members.Follow current NYSC camp instructions and prohibited-item guidance.
Primary assignment & CDSCorps members serve at assigned organisations and take part in Community Development Service activities. This is the main service period and contributes to the objectives of the scheme.Keep service records and follow reporting requirements.

Important preparation points

  • Use the same accurate personal information across university and NYSC records.
  • Keep an email address and Nigerian phone number you can access throughout the process.
  • Locally trained graduates should confirm that their details are on the appropriate approved result/Senate list before registration.
  • Do not use another person's biometric information and do not permit proxy registration.
  • Foreign-trained Nigerian graduates have additional credential-verification requirements and should follow the official foreign-trained guidance.

Service, exemption and exclusion

Mobilisation for service

Eligible graduates follow the current NYSC registration and mobilisation process for their service-year batch.

Certificate of Exemption

NYSC publishes statutory categories for exemption, including graduates who were over the specified age threshold at the date of graduation and other categories provided by law. Applicants should rely on NYSC's official explanation for their individual case.

Part-time graduates

NYSC's published registration requirements state that part-time graduates register online and print an exclusion letter. Students should confirm the current procedure when they graduate.

Foreign-trained graduates

Additional academic credentials and verification procedures apply. Original credentials and other documents may be required under the current NYSC rules.

Dates are not permanent. NYSC timetable dates are published for particular batches and can be described as tentative. Always use the latest official NYSC timetable for your batch instead of relying on an old screenshot or previous service year.
